Where are you

by Shreya

Last time we talked

you were just staring at the TV,

not listening to me,

as if I were a piece of

worm eaten wood

floating on water.

I need your attention;

you don’t

share your thoughts,

and all you do

is look somewhere else

when I’m here

calling out to you.

It’s difficult for me

to carry this on my own;

you are distracted

and I’m scared

that the very thing we had

might end.

But I know that

one day you’d wake up

and talk with me.

Until then, I hope

you figure things out

and realise that your attention

is priceless to someone

standing right beside you.
